In loving memory of Kevin Thomas Perry 2-1-88 to 6-20-88

You surprised us little Kevin.
We found ourselves
unexpectedly expecting you.
We unpacked the “baby things,”
enlarged the house to hold you and
enlarged our hearts to love you.
You surprised us little Kevin.

You surprised us little Kevin.
We found ourselves
unexpectedly parenting you.
We adjusted our priorities,
prayed for wisdom to nurture you
and for energy to keep up with you.
You surprised us little Kevin.

You surprised us little Kevin.
We find ourselves
unexpectedly grieving you.
We’ll repack and readjust
and weep as we pray.
You surprised us little Kevin.

You surprised us little Kevin.
We find ourselves
so expectedly wanting you.
Our time was too short
our hopes were so high.
Gone from us now
too quick for good bye.
You surprised us little Kevin.

God loaned you.
We loved you.
Your memory can heal us…
Still you surprise us little Kevin.
