IRIS and Worldwide Candle Lighting Day
Decenber 12, 2008

Infants Remembered In Silence, Inc. (IRIS), in conjunction with the Compassionate Friends International, encourages members of the community to take part in the annual Worldwide Candle Lighting vigil " ... that their light may always shine."

During this worldwide event, everyone who has had a child die, of any age and from any cause, is asked to light a candle in their memory on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in their respective time zone.

"This annual event has been honored by many IRIS parents in our area for years," said Diana Sundwall, IRIS founder and executive director. "Some have chosen to do a personal remembrance in their own homes, while others have chosen to invite family, friends and support group members into their homes for this very special gathering to remember their children."This year, at the request of IRIS parents, the nearly 200 infants and young children remembered last Sunday during the 14th Annual IRIS Holiday Service of Remembrance at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd on the Shattuck campus will again be remembered on Sunday at 7 p.m. in the IRIS office.

"Candles lit during the IRIS Holiday Service will be re-lit in the windows of the IRIS office," said Sundwall. "Anyone wishing to join us from 7 to 8 p.m. this Sunday is welcome to bring a candle and light it on the steps of the IRIS office."

The IRIS office is located at the corner of First Avenue and Third Street Northwest in Faribault (between the Law Enforcement Center and City Hall).
