On October 12, 1985 my third child, Derek Joseph, was stillborn at 39 weeks and 4 days.

Things were done differently in 1985, but I was lucky enough to have staff that let me hold him for 3 hours and take a few priceless pictures - both were not allowed 33 years ago.

Even though Derek was born still, he has touched and changed the lives of thousands of people.

I believe I known the purpose for his short life… I believe he was born so that IRIS would be founded and thousands would be helped each year.
