Aussie Kanzenbach

Team Captain: April Kanzenbach

In January of this year my husband and I decided to start trying for another baby. We thought that since we were headed to Australia for a best friend's wedding, it would be the perfect place to start. A couple weeks after arriving home we found out we were expecting. The due date was set for October 25th. A few more weeks passed and I began to spot. We made an appointment and were nervous to find out what could be the cause. The doctor told us there was a subchorionic hemorrhage but that the bleeding should stop within days. Aussie was measuring at 6 weeks and 3 days which was behind the 7 and half weeks that we thought we were. Nevertheless, we were elated to hear the baby's heartbeat and left feeling at ease. The bleeding stopped just as the doctor said. We continued onward and were excited for what was to come.

A little over a week later I began to bleed again. I went to the hospital, only to find out our baby was gone. At the time, I should have been just shy of 9 weeks along but Aussie still measured 6 weeks and 3 days; the same as when we last got to hear the heartbeat. We chose to go through the motions at home on March 24th. It was a very emotional event and even more so because I could not seem to find Aussie. All I wanted was to see my little babe- no matter how tiny. The weekend came to an end and I decided to go back to work on Monday. It was at this time that I began to lose a great deal of blood and became very dizzy. Since I'm already anemic, we knew that it could be bad news. My husband picked me up and we went to the ER. They ran tests in fear that I was hemorrhaging. My hemoglobin was a 10.1- which was rather low but stable. After multiple ultrasounds they confirmed that everything had passed and I should be feeling better shortly. We were sent on our way. Fortunately, they were partially wrong. I did end up feeling better but I hadn't passed everything yet. Because I have a tilted cervix, they must have missed the sac. I passed Aussie at home on March 27th.

As the days have come and gone, we are still trying to cope. To help us with this, we have decided to do the Turkey Trot. In years past, we did it for a best friend's brother. Now this year, were were given our very own reason. Our little Aussie.
