How Many Children?
Allison Chambers-Coxsey (c) 1996

"How many children"?, he asked of me.
"Well", I said slowly,
"I used to have three".
Three were born living,
But now one is gone,
Should I answer two?
But, no, that's wrong.
For the one who is gone,
Still lives in my mind,
Still lives in my heart,
Her smiling picture still adorns my desk,
Her presence on earth still remembered,
"How many children”? he asked of me.
"Three", I said proudly, "I have three"!
