Sixteen Days (Dear Rachel)
By Barbara Ruane

Sixteen days was not enough
for us to watch you grow
Sixteen days was not enough
for us to let you know
how long we waited for you
and how we loved you so

Sixteen days was not enough
to hold your tiny hands
and stroke your soft sweet face
and gaze into your eyes
and see our image gazing back
in wonder and surprise

Sixteen days was not enough
for a little life
that fought so hard and was so strong
and ended with such strife

Though early you were taken from us
we want you to know
you are our little angel
and we love you so

So play little angel with your sister and brother in
heaven

For no matter where we are
or where we’ll be
we are “all”
a family.
