Bittersweet

Bittersweet.
A treat we eat-
deliciously, yet with reserve.
The bitter and the sweet combined;
their tastes are separate,
yet entwined.
Bittersweet.

Bittersweet.
A baby born-
my heart thrills to see the parents
bright with pride
awed by this new life.
No sweeter sight nor sounds could be…
yet, oh – such agony for me.
Bittersweet.
